There’s no way around it: these unprecedented times are hot garbáge. If you’re anything like me, sitting down to write feels useless at best, downright head-in-the-sand at worst. It even feels silly starting a damn newsletter. Why the hell should we create and share and enjoy when [choose an atrocity; there are worse ones every day]?
I’m still working on an answer. But I know creativity is resistance. I know sharing horrors comes with sharing hope, because all of us are looking to the helpers in our own way. And I know we all want to help wherever we can.
So it’s important to me to make this list, and update it when I can. A resource for me and for you. Hope it helps.
Making your voice heard
- 5calls.org – This remains the ultimate way to contact your representatives in one (okay, a few) fell swoop(s). Context, contact info, handy scripts, so much more.
- Resistbot – If calling isn’t your thing, Resistbot will help you text or email.
Helping in Minnesota
- Stand with Minnesota – Incredibly organized list of ways to help donate to people and mutual aid groups on the ground helping their neighbors and standing up against ICE.
- This Bluesky thread – A list of how we can get involved even if we’re outside the heart of the conflict—some familiar, some surprising.
Helping in our own communities
- Mutual Aid Hub – Find your local mutual aid group(s) to put real time or money or effort into effective community change.
- Mutual Aid Legal Toolkit – A toolkit for those interested in forming their own mutual aid networks.
- FindHelp.org – If you or your neighbors need help (or a volunteer opportunity), this is an excellent resource for finding local organizations.
- Community Safety and Immigration Advocacy Resources – While this comes from the Cincinnati Reddit page and does have some local resources, they also have a great list of national resources to help us advocate for and support our neighbors, at home, at protests, and more.
- Community bail – The National Bail Fund Network helps find your local bail organizations that use “interventions that contest the current operation and function of the criminal legal and immigration detention systems,” which is exactly how we help build a more equitable society. The Bail Project does similar work, with emphasis on ending the bail system that makes laws optional for the rich.
Helping Palestine
- 6 Ways You Can Support Palestinians in Gaza – Bunch of ways to help here, with several options under most suggestions.
- World Central Kitchen – This remains the premiere organization for getting food aid to Gaza.
More resources to come. If you’ve got suggestions, please add them in the comments!
